A Week in the Life of Ken ...
Here's a breakdown of a typical week in 2003, day-by-day with all its
activities and musings.
 |
I consider Monday the start of my
week. This is the day I stroll into my office, maybe meet a few
clients, but just look busy in general, making a run to the PO box and bank,
and taking care of all those things I realized on Saturday I didn't get done
during the last work week.
|
 |
Tuesday is the day I continue through
doing various projects, but in my business and the apartment complex as
manager. I look forward to seeing my daughter Christina in the
evening, having dinner as a family, but typically she goes off and chats on
IM, three-way on the phone, and surfs the web, and of course all of this
while doing homework. After dropping her off, it's
time to put out the recycle bins for pickup the following day.

I was born on a Wednesday, and I
always liked this day -- as a teenager I used to walk to church for mass on
Wednesday evenings as a mid-week reflection. Most Wednesdays Merry has
off, and so it is (like days of yore) "market day" where we shop for
groceries at Country Peddler and Aldi's. At some unpredictable time,
our Byrne Dairy milk is delivered, mostly in glass bottles, by Hillside
Dairy. Then many a Wednesday or Thursday evening over the years were spent
teaching Tai Chi & Chi Kung in community education in various school
districts.

Sharecropping on Thursdays at the
Native Offerings farm
in East Otto means getting up insanely early to drive an hour, spending the
next five in the field picking and weeding, and then washing and boxing up
organic produce. It means bringing home a "work share" of the freshest
vegetables (and occasionally fruits) I've ever eaten.

 |
The Hamburg 2 "Leads to Success" chapter of
Business Network International
meets at 7am on Fridays, where I give inspiration as the educational
coordinator, and exchange business leads with people of various professions.
The rest of the day slips by with end-of-week projects and meetings, as well
as the bi-weekly Friday get-together with my daughter for dinner and perhaps
some shopping or other errands.

 |
Saturday is filled with personal and other
home (and apartment complex projects), or going out to do something with my
daughter, depending on weekend. With no Simpsons at 11pm on TV like on
weekdays, we may rent a movie and stay up late just the same. On rare
occasion, we may even go to the beach to have a bonfire late at night.
|
 |
We go to noon mass at
Our Lady of the Sacred Heart
RCC church in Orchard Park, setting out a half-hour early to pick up a
distant aunt of ours who doesn't drive to come with us, and to arrive early
for last-minute choir rehearsal. A wonderful tea/brunch follows, and
the guys may come over later in the evening as on a Saturday, but a movie is
less likely.
